Frequently asked questions.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time child life services are not billable, thus insurance is not accepted. A sliding scale is available for families that need financial assistance. Reach out for more information.

How many sessions are typically necessary?

Every child and family is unique, so there is not a one-size-fits all answer to this question. Everyone processes and grieves in their own way and time. Some families may only book a couple of parenting consultations to gain support and skills to utilize with their kids at home. Other families want the ongoing support and opportunity for therapeutic play and interventions for their children or teens weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Together we can come up with a plan that works best for you and your unique needs.

What takes place during the caregiver phone/video consultation?

The first parent/caregiver consultation is a time to learn about your unique situation, current understanding and coping of the child(ren), and any concerns you may have. During the first and subsequent sessions, support and guidance will be provided to aid in optimal coping and healing. While we love to see the beautiful faces of our clients, we leave it up to our clients to let us know how they are comfortable interacting. We understand that this is a vulnerable time, so we want to make sure that you have choices and are comfortable in speaking via your preferred mode of communication.

What takes place during the child/teen session?

The child/teen sessions revolve around play, the language and work of children. Play is how children process and understand their world. Parents/caregivers are invited to engage in the activities with their younger children if they choose. Older children and teens typically do best with having some space to engage in the activities freely. The chosen activities will be based on your child’s interests, personality, temperament, unique understanding level, concerns, and specific grief situation. Common activities are centered around movement, expressive arts, games, mindfulness, music, sports, and the use of educational and healing books.

What age children do you work with?

Virtual sessions typically work best with children ages 4 and up, however some young children may do well with the virtual sessions depending on their temperament. Parenting consultations are available to guide and empower parents with developing the skills and tools to support optimal coping for younger children.
